More human deportation

Two installations

This installation deals with the consequences of the Austrian asylum policy for children in 2011/12.
In a lattice bed, bars actually should have a protective function, but as a result of the lighting setup they mutate into gigantic cage bars resembling the bars in a thrust prison.
The harshness of these shadow-bars is eased by cushions, some with children‘s terra-cotta heads printed on them. In psychoanalysis the cushion is referred to as a ‘transitional object’, at first helping the child, similar to a cuddly toy, to better overcome the separation from the family. However, the traumatization of children caused by the separation or destruction of their families is a lifelong nightmare.
