Graphic series

Margret Kohler-Heilingsetzer has been using the vessel as a metaphor for escape, departure, and the illusion of a better future in her photographic, graphic, and sculptural work since 2006. She forces us to confront the destiny of the ‚boat people‘ and their displacement, cut off from their origins and hoping for an unattainable future.
Printing has always been a medium for political and social statements in order to inform and emotionalize. Margret Kohler-Heilingsetzer recent prints develop from black&white photographs of her nearly thousand terra-cotta heads, photographs of the beach,  as well as from photographs she found while researching print media and  internet. She transforms such images, fragmented or altered, into offset symmetry prints since 2009, parallel to her work with terracotta heads.
